STORYWISE SEMINARS – GETTING TO THE NEXT STEP
Jen Grisanti Consultancy announces "Storywise Seminars".
The September seminar was a huge success. We started the day with an excercise for the participants to describe a life identifying moment that turned their world upside down and helped them to find or strengthen their creative voice. The stories were amazing! Next we discussed the nuts and bolts of story structure in television and and film. I shared my personal experience with Aaron Spelling and many other great mentors and the lessons I learned from them. We discussed what you can do to make your scripts stand out. Other topics covered included what are the best television scripts to write according to the surveys that went out to agents, managers and executives, what books have the best information on story, what makes a writer/director meeting memorable, what are the best ways to get your material out there, what do agents/managers look for when signing a writer/director and what is the best way to network.
The guest speakers were BRILLIANT. Gaylyn Fraiche, VP of Martin Chase Productions started it off with giving valuable information on the feature world and what the current market is on buying scripts. Next, Elisa Roth, Sr. VP of Drama Programs from Universal Media Studios, had everyone in stitches with her take on Development process in television and how it all works. Glen Mazzara, Executive Producer/Showrunner on CRASH, was simply brilliant. He really connected with everyone through revealing information about his personal journey that led him to where he is. Glen taught them about learning how to tell their own story. The humor Glen added to his story really made the day end in a very strong way.
